Archaeology Job Opportunities With The U.S. Army Corps Of Engineers

(UNDATED) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District Planning Section is currently recruiting two GS-12 non-supervisory, archaeologist positions. The vacancy opened on Jan. 5th and closes on Jan. 15, 2018.

The Louisville District civil works boundaries cover 76,000 sq. miles in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, and a small area in Tennessee while the military boundaries cover 306,000 sq. miles in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, and Ohio. We are the home to approximately 1,100 employees, 20 flood reduction and recreation reservoirs, and 10 locks and dams on the inland waterway system. The Louisville District offers an excellent, updated working environment with a workout room in the building available to all employees. These archaeologist positions will support both the civil works and military missions in the Louisville District.

This position serves as a senior archaeologist for comprehensive water resources planning assignments. Assignments include: (1) Serves as a staff specialist and technical authority on archeological and cultural resources of the District, (2) Provides expert advice and consultation on archaeological matters to key managers and supervisors within the District, (3) Reviews Civil Works projects, O & M projects and other District actions for the presence of National Register properties within affected areas, (4) Prepares scopes of services and requests for proposals, (5) Administers contracts for archaeological, historical, and cultural investigations as they relate to the District's programs, (5) Prepares or directs preparation of portions of environmental (NEPA) documents relating to archaeological, historical, and cultural resources, (6) Prepares Memoranda of Agreement and performs or directs mitigation activities on significant cultural resources for often large complex projects.
