Last updated on Friday, December 22, 2017

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The City of Jasper, Ind., achieved recertification in the Indiana Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (INSHARP).

Maintaining certification for over 14 years, the City of Jasper has demonstrated excellence in proactively eliminating or limiting workplace safety and health hazards, reducing worker injuries, and protecting city employees.

The City of Jasper, county seat of Dubois County, is home to over 15,000 Hoosiers, the 55th largest Indiana city, and an employer of approximately 174 workers.

"The City of Jasper is an excellent representation of a thriving workplace safety and health culture," said Indiana Department of Labor Commissioner Rick Ruble. "The Indiana Department of Labor sincerely thanks the city for its commitment to protecting Hoosier workers."

The City of Jasper was the first Hoosier workplace to achieve INSHARP certification, and as such, it the longest certified site in Indiana. Furthermore, the City of Jasper is the only public sector organization that has achieved INSHARP.

The City of Jasper has served as an ambassador for the INSHARP program and workplace safety and health excellence as demonstrated by hosting and participating in workplace safety and health "Best Practice" meetings, actively supporting outreach efforts, and engaging in many other safety-related activities. The City of Jasper's most recent workplace injury and illness rate was nearly half the national industry average.
