Infected Wreaths Sold In Evansville Need Returned

Last updated on Friday, December 15, 2017

(EVANSVILLE) - Those who purchased Christmas wreaths from an Evansville Boy Scout troop are being asked to dispose of them.

The fresh-cut fir and boxwood stem wreaths are contaminated with boxwood blight and were sold by Evansville Boy Scout Troop 399 as part of an annual fundraising event.

Those who purchased a wreath are being asked to tie them up in a large trash bag as soon as possible to contain the spread of the blight.

The plant disease is of high concern because boxwoods are a commonly used landscape shrub.

It's important the wreaths are bagged and properly disposed of and that they are not recycled or composted.

Composting can spread the infestation to other areas within the city and county.
