Bartholomew Co. Coroner Request More Money After Overdose Deaths Soar

Last updated on Friday, December 8, 2017

(BARTHOLOMEW CO.) - The Bartholomew County coroner is asking for more money after seeing a drastic increase in the number of overdose deaths. The number has quadruple from 2015.

This year there have been 26 overdose deaths, 19 of those are confirmed opiates and two more are pending toxicology results.

Newly elected Coroner Clayton Nolting is asking for around $14,000 to see the department till the end of the year. The funds will be used to pay for deputy coroners, autopsies and toxicology testing to better understand which drugs are causing the overdoses.

The council will vote on Nolting's request Tuesday night. The money would come out of the county's general fund.
