Summit To Examine Impact Of Opioid Epidemic On Infant Mortality

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana State Department of Health’s fifth annual Labor of Love infant mortality summit is today at the Marriott in downtown Indianapolis.

This year's summit will feature leading experts who will focus on the factors that contribute to infant mortality, with a special emphasis on the impact of the opioid epidemic on mothers and babies.

Break-out sessions will cover a wide array of topics, including safe sleep, breastfeeding and immunizations.

Infant mortality is defined as the death of a child before his or her first birthday. In 2015, the last year for which complete data are available, 613 Indiana babies died before the age of 1.

The event runs from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Indianapolis Downtown Marriott, 350 W. Maryland, Indianapolis, which is a change in location from previous years. A reception will follow from 4:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
