Shortage Of Christmas Trees

Last updated on Tuesday, November 21, 2017

(EVANSVILLE) - If you’re looking to buy a live Christmas tree, you may want to do it sooner rather than later.

There's a shortage of Christmas trees all over the country, but it's really hitting one Evansville business hard.

WFIE TV says the owner of Goebel Farms told them all types of live trees are running low, but especially the Fraser Fir trees.

Larry Goebel says his supplier boosted the cost of their tree shipments for the first time in 15 years.

He also says this is the first year they've had to raise the price of the Fraser Fir's out in the field since their supply can't keep up with the demand.

Goebel says everybody wants to go natural, and it takes probably 10 to 15 years to grow the trees.

He says people don't realize that it doesn't just happen overnight.
