The best tree to put in the median in front of your favorite park to help lower the air temperature? Try a Basswood or Sycamore

What do all of these things have in common? All the information came from using iTree Software
So, what is iTree and what else can it do for you?

iTree is a free tool for assessing and managing urban tree populations that is provided by the US Forest. There are several different components of iTree that can help individuals and communities to:

Determine their Urban Tree Canopy (UTC) - iTree Canopy

Place trees in the landscape to maximize their benefits - iTree Design

Select the right tree for a given location - iTree Species

Select planting sites based on demographic info, pollution, or water quality data - iTree Landscape

Evaluate current benefits, costs, and management needs - iTree Streets

Want to know what you can do to help expand and enhance the urban forest where you live? The Indiana Community & Urban Forestry Program wants to help you on your way.
