American Red Cross And 44 News Invite Individuals To "Give More Life" At The Give Thanks, Give Life Blood Drive

Last updated on Friday, November 10, 2017

(EVANSVILLE) - It’s the season of giving and gratitude! The American Red Cross and 44 News are encouraging individuals to “give more life” by giving a lifesaving blood donation at the annual Give Thanks, Give Life Blood Drive, Nov. 20 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Stockwell Blood Donation Center, 29 S. Stockwell Road in Evansville.

The simple, yet lifesaving act of donating blood has the potential to give patients in need a meaningful reason to be thankful this holiday season. As a special thank you, all presenting donors will receive a long-sleeved Red Cross T-shirt, Donut Bank donuts, Texas Roundhouse chili and butter bread and Olive Garden pasta and bread sticks, while supplies last.

"By giving blood at the Give Thanks, Give Life Blood Drive, donors can share the gift of life with patients while appreciating the positive act of their giving," said Todd Wagner, director of donor recruitment for the River Valley Blood Services Region. "The Red Cross is thankful for the support of the Evansville community and 44 News for valuing the importance of giving back to help ensure patients have hope this holiday season."

In the past 10 years, the annual Give Thanks, Give Life Blood Drive has collected over 1,670 pints of blood. Donors of all blood types are needed to give Nov. 20. As people get busy with holiday activities from Thanksgiving to New Year's Day, the amount of blood donations tends to decline while the number of patients depending on blood donations does not. By donating blood during this time of year, individuals can help give patients another holiday season with family
and friends. Take part in giving thanks and giving more life by scheduling an appointment to donate.

How to donate blood
Schedule an appointment by calling 1-800 RED CROSS, downloading the Red Cross Blood Donor App or visiting and entering sponsor code: Give Thanks. Walk-ins are welcome.

A blood donor card or driver's license or two other forms of identification are required at check- in. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

Blood donors can now save time at their next donation by using RapidPass to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, prior to arriving at the blood drive. To get started and learn more, visit and follow the instructions on the site.
