Makin' Bacon: U.S. Hog And Pig Inventory Grows

(UNDATED) - There were 73.5 million hogs and pigs on U.S. farms as of September 1, the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service said.

The inventory included 67.5 million market hogs while 6.1 million were kept for breeding.

NASS said the inventory increased by 3 percent from the previous quarter.

Iowa leads the nation in hog production with an inventory of 22.9 million head, while North Carolina and Minnesota were second and third with 9.2 million and 8.2 million, respectively.
