Indiana State Trooper Shoots, Wounds Person After Foot Chase

Last updated on Thursday, October 12, 2017

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Authorities say an Indiana state trooper shot and badly wounded a person who fired shots at the trooper and a police dog during a foot chase in Indianapolis.

State police say troopers were searching Tuesday night for two people who had fled from police when a male matching the description for one of the suspects was spotted on the city's far east side. A trooper was trying to search him before he ran away.

State police Sgt. John Perrine says the trooper sent his dog to pursue him and the male fired shots. Perrine says the trooper fired back at the person, who was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

Perrine says the trooper wasn't injured. The police dog ran from the area but was found safe Wednesday morning.
