Indiana State Police Investigating Death Of Noble County Jail Inmate

(NOBLE CO.) - Investigators from the Indiana State Police in Fort Wayne are investigating the death of a 23 year old inmate of the Noble County Jail after he was found unconscious and unresponsive in his cell on Wednesday night.

Preliminary investigation by Detective Mike Carroll has indicated on Wednesday night at approximately 8:30 p.m., Confinement Officers were conducting routine cell checks when they found 23-year-old Markus Neal Middleton, of Albion unconscious and unresponsive. Confinement Officers immediately entered the cell and began to perform life-saving measures until medics arrived.

Medics from Noble County EMS arrived within minutes and despite their efforts, Middleton was pronounced dead at 9:01 p.m. The Noble County Sheriff Department requested a Detective from the Indiana State Police to conduct the subsequent investigation. An autopsy has been scheduled for this afternoon. Middleton, who has been incarcerated since September 11, 2017 was the only inmate inside the cell and foul play is not suspected.

At this time, no further information is available until the results of the autopsy have been released. The Noble County Sheriff Department and the Noble County Coroner's Office are assisting in this investigation.
