Walk To School Day Is Oct. 4

Last updated on Friday, September 29, 2017

(UNDATED) - Children and parents throughout the state will be walking and biking to school as part of International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, Oct. 4.

The Indiana Safe Routes to School Partnership - which works to increase the number of children safely walking and biking to school throughout the state - and Health by Design are encouraging schools and parents statewide to take part.

"We're seeing increased interest in walking to school as educators, parents and school staff experience the benefits of physical activity for students, especially at the start of their day," said Kim Irwin, executive director at Health by Design.

It's not too late to plan an event. The national website has a step-by-step list for planning a Walk to School Day event in seven days at http://www.walkbiketoschool.org/plan/how-to-plan/plan-an-event-in-7-days/.

As of today, 50 Hoosier schools have registered events on the national website, www.walkbiketoschool.org. They're listed below by city and with contact information.
