Preliminary investigation by Trooper Sean Schaefer has revealed that a gray Dodge Ram pickup was northbound on I-65. The driver of the pickup for unknown reason, failed to see traffic slowed in the left lane and ran into the back of a semi-trailer hauling a steel roll and being pulled by a 1998 Peterbilt driven by 50-year-old Michelle Seaton of Merrillville, IN.

The pickup burst into flames. Good Samaritans from other vehicles attempted to pull the driver from the vehicle but was unable to due to the heat of the fire.

The pickup was fully engulfed when fire department arrived. The driver succumbed to possibly injuries and fire of the vehicle. Identity of the driver will be released when family is notified. The investigation is continuing.

The highway was shut down for around two hours while police investigated the crash.
