Lowell Man Seriously Injured, Operator Arrested

Last updated on Monday, September 25, 2017

(LOWELL) - Indiana Conservation Officers on Sunday were called to the area of 157th Place and Truman Street to investigate an off-road vehicle crash that left a Lowell man seriously injured.

The investigation revealed that shortly after 12 a.m., 35-year-old Mark Runyon of Lowell was operating a Can-Am Maverick side by side off-road vehicle with 46-year-old John Sopovski of Lowell in the passenger seat.

While traveling down the roadway at a high- rate of speed, Runyon lost control of the ORV and it rolled over, ejecting Sopovski from the vehicle. Sopovski suffered a severe leg injury and was transported by Tri Creek ambulance to Saint Anthony's Medical Center in Crown Point.

As a result of the investigation, probable cause was developed to believe Runyon had operated the ORV while intoxicated and he was booked into the Lake County Jail on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury, a level 6 Felony.
