Gov. Holcomb Announces Judicial Appointment For Johnson County Superior Court II Vacancy

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Gov. Eric J. Holcomb announced Peter Douglas Nugent as his appointment to the Johnson County Superior Court II.

Nugent succeeds Judge Cynthia S. Emkes, who is retiring after 30 years on the bench.

Nugent has extensive experience in both the civil and criminal law arenas. He has served as a deputy prosecutor as well as a public defender and has engaged in the private practice of law. Nugent also has extensive experience serving as a judge pro tempore in civil and criminal cases, including a murder trial. In addition, he has served on the Indiana Public Defender Commission and the Indiana State Ethics Commission.

Nugent received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University Bloomington and his law degree from John Marshall Law School.

Nugent will be sworn into office on a mutually agreeable date to be determined.
