Disclosure Nears For JFK Assassination Records

Last updated on Friday, September 29, 2017

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - A deadline set by Congress 25 years ago to disclose the last remaining records of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination is less than a month away.

On October 26, a quarter century after the 1992 enactment of legislation, the National Archives and Records Administration is scheduled to release its collection of assassination-related documents.

The collection contains 268,116 records and more than 5 million pages, of which 88 percent have previously been disclosed.

According to a Congressional Research Service memo distributed in late May, 11 percent of the documents have been available with redactions and 1 percent, numbering between 3,000 and 3,600 records, have been entirely withheld from disclosure.
