(WINFIELD) - On Friday, Indiana Conservation Officers were called to the area of 121st Avenue and Orange Street to investigate an Off Road Vehicle (ORV) crash that left a 15-year-old male seriously injured.

The investigation revealed that at approximately 5:00 p.m. a 15-year-old male and a friend were riding four wheelers on private property when they cut through a subdivision development under construction. While riding through the development, the 15-year-old drove his Honda four wheeler over the edge of a basement foundation, falling with his ORV 8 feet onto the concrete floor.

As a result of the crash, the teen received a severe concussion, broken clavicle, and several lacerations. He was transported by Lakes of Four Seasons Fire Department ambulance to Saint Anthony's Medical Center in Crown Point where he was treated and later released.

The victim was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, which likely saved his life. Indiana Conservation Officers would like to remind all ORV riders to wear a helmet and proper safety gear while riding. A new law that went into effect in July of this year requires all ORV operators and passengers under age 18 to wear a DOT approved helmet while operating or riding both public and private property.
