(LOUISVILLE, KY) - 184 pets from Kentucky Humane Society in Louisville went to loving, forever homes during EMPTY THE SHELTERS Hurricane Relief, a free adoption event organized by BISSELL Pet Foundation (BPF) with adoption fees at participating organizations generously funded by BISSELL.
Kentucky Humane Society was one of 15 shelters in 7 states taking part in the event which found homes for 764 pets. Each pet adopted from a shelter creates space for another pet to be taken in, resulting in 1,528 lives saved by EMPTY THE SHELTERS.
EMPTY THE SHELTERS Hurricane Relief was BPF's response to a capacity crisis resulting from recent hurricanes in Florida and Texas. Animals from those states, who had been in shelters prior to the storms, needed to be adopted to make room for pets displaced by the hurricanes. BISSELL paid the adoption fees for all pets at the 15 participating locations.

"We worked closely with our shelter partners to achieve this success and save so many lives. At BISSELL Pet Foundation, our goal is to bring awareness for adoption and to find every pet a loving home."
Participating shelters and rescues were required to follow their usual adoption requirements to ensure pets go to the right homes. BISSELL Pet Foundation has found homes for more than 9,000 pets since beginning the EMPTY THE SHELTERS initiative in May 2016.
