Senator Wants Start Of School Pushed Back

Last updated on Friday, August 4, 2017

(INDIANAPOLIS) - An Indianapolis lawmaker says the first day of school doesn’t have to come in the first week of August. State Senator Jack Sandlin has plans to introduce a bill to push back the first day of school in Indiana.

Sandlin says he'd rather see kids start school at the end of August.

The Indiana State Teachers Association says it appreciates Sandlin's hope for kids to spend more time with their families, but would rather let local districts set their own start dates.
