Former State Police Officer Arrested On Sexual Battery And Sexual Misconduct With A Minor Charges

(DECATUR CO.) - Late Thursday afternoon, former state police officer, 54-year-old Jack R. Hewitt of Greensburg was arrested at the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department.

He was arrested the result of a state police investigation that alleges he engaged in sexual battery, a Level 6 felony, and sexual misconduct with a minor, a Level 5 felony.

Indiana State Police personnel were notified of the allegations against Hewitt by another law enforcement officer on August 9th of this year. As a result of the allegations, a state police criminal investigation began this same date and Hewitt was immediately placed on paid administrative leave.

Thursday, Hewitt resigned from the state police.

Information on the results of the state police investigation was presented to the Decatur County Prosecutor. After consultation with the prosecutor Hewitt was arrested shortly after 3:30 p.m. Thursday, without incident, at the Decatur County Sheriff's Office and is presently being held at the Decatur County Jail.

An initial hearing date has yet to be scheduled.

Hewitt began employment with the state police in December of 1998 and was most recently assigned to the Versailles post until he resigned Thursday. Hewitt did not have any prior disciplinary history with the state police.
