(ANDERSON) - The Honorable Eric H. Holder, Jr., former attorney general for the United States, will be speaking at Anderson University on Sept. 19 for the observation of Constitution Day.
Holder will first meet with Anderson University students majoring in national security studies, then provide an address at an open forum at 2 p.m. in York Performance Hall. A media session will follow at 2:45 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
Holder served as the 82nd attorney general of the United States from 2009-2015. He previously served as a judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia and as United States attorney for D.C. Later, he was deputy attorney general of the United States and worked at the law firm Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C, where he is again practicing.
"Holder brings to AU a wealth of experience earned during his remarkable career as a public servant in D.C.," said AU President John S. Pistole. "His appearance will be a valuable opportunity for all of us as we live out our mission to educate our students for a life of faith and service in the church and society."
The Anderson University National Security Studies Fellows is responsible for bringing Holder to campus. The National Security Studies Fellows connects students to professionals with current or recent experience in national security who visit campus, network with students, and provide insight to classroom study. Most recently, the Fellows hosted Robert Mueller, former director of the FBI.
Constitution Day is celebrated on Sept. 17, and was designated by the United States Congress. On Sept. 17, 1787, delegates to the Philadelphia Convention completed and signed the U.S. Constitution. The ideas on which America was founded-commitments to the rule of law, limited government and the ideals of liberty, equality, and justice-are embodied in the Constitution, the oldest written constitution of any nation on Earth. Constitution Day is intended to celebrate not only the birthday of our government, but the ideas that make us Americans.
