(STATEHOUSE) - Area legislators Monday announced the latest recipients of the Hoosier Homestead award, which recognizes farms that have been owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more.
Represented by State Sen. Eric Koch (R-Bedford) and Milo Smith (R-Columbus), the Voelz Family farm, located in Columbus, was honored with a Centennial Award at the Indiana State Fair.
"Indiana's recent bicentennial celebration highlighted the fundamental role agricultural has played in our state's culture and economy since its founding," Koch said. "Congratulations to the Voelz Family farm for their hard work and dedication, as they have contributed not only to their communities, but the entire state of Indiana."
"Family farms contribute to our state economy, supporting over 100,000 jobs," Smith said. "It is important we recognize the dedication these families have put forth and highlight their more than 100 years of ownership."
