Evansville Woman Sentenced In Federal Court For Bankruptcy And Wire Fraud Scheme

Last updated on Tuesday, July 11, 2017

(EVANSVILLE) - A federal judge sentenced an Evansville woman to five years in prison this week for defrauding her husband of thousands of dollars from his 401K and taking out loans on that 401K retirement plan.

Her brother was sentenced in May for pretending to be her husband and helping with the scheme.

58-year-old Patricia Bippus-Allen pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bankruptcy fraud, subornation of perjury, wire fraud, and aggravated identity theft.

Bippus-Allen filed a joint Chapter 13 bankruptcy petition in both her and her husband's name in 2010. Her husband didn't know about it or authorize it. She also forged his name on documents.

Federal authorities say Bippus-Allen will have to pay back over $112,000 when she gets out of federal prison.

She'll be on probation for three years.

Her brother is on probation for two years and has been ordered to pay back over $10,000.
