Caveat Emptor Wins Dispute Over Misleading Pricetags

Last updated on Friday, July 28, 2017

(UNDATED) - The ancient marketplace principle of caveat emptor (“let the buyer beware”) prevailed when the U.S. 1st Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the dismissals of two lawsuits that accused two national retailers - Nordstrom Inc. and Kohl’s Department Stores Inc.- of using deceptive pricetags to trick consumers into believing that they were getting a discount on merchandise they bought.

Talk Media News reports, in both cases, consumers in the class action lawsuits claimed the merchandise had never been sold at the prices shown on the discounted pricetags.
