Caprino Attends Homeland Security Workshop

(VINCENNES) - Lou Caprino, chair of Vincennes University's Homeland Security and Public Safety program, was one of only 25 professors and instructors nationwide who participated in the week-long Center for Homeland Security and Defense Faculty Development Workshop at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, June 25-30.

Workshop topics included Homeland Security Technology, Cybersecurity in Higher Education Program Content, Threats and Infrastructure: Modeling Defensive Strategies, Creating an Integrated Student Internship Plan, Intelligence and Homeland Security, and Comparative Homeland Security.

Caprino brings 29 years of service with the Federal Bureau of Investigation to his VU assignment. He was formerly assigned in Los Angeles, Calif., where he was in charge the largest white collar crime and cybercrime divisions in the FBI and had oversight of the Joint Terrorism Task Force. Caprino is one of fewer than 20 FBI Special Agents who have the distinction of being FBI Certified Intelligence Officers (FCIO). In addition, Caprino is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP).

Caprino's other FBI assignments included service in New York, Indianapolis, and FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. From 1998-2003, Caprino served as the FBI's Legal Attaché and was accredited to the U.S. Embassies in Canberra, Australia; Wellington, New Zealand; Suva, Fiji; and Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. While assigned overseas, Caprino worked closely with members of the embassy country teams on assignments involving all of the FBI's investigative programs including violent crime, white collar crime, cybercrime, counterterrorism, and counterintelligence. In addition, Caprino was assigned on a temporary basis as the Legal Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore and had oversight of FBI investigations in Singapore, Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, and Brunei.
