(CHARLESTOWN) - Jason Leineweber of Charlestown will kick off his campaign to represent Indiana’s ninth district this Saturday in Jeffersonville.
A lifelong resident of the ninth district, Leineweber is running as direct representation of the middle class. The last time the district had representation from someone who was born in the area was Baron Hill. "It is time for the middle class to have accurate middle class representation. People are tired of the same old, same old in politics. The majority of the current political party system is made up of lawyers, career politicians and lobbyists. The days of allowing the most damaging of people who choose to harm, rather than to help, decide what is right for those below them, are coming to an end. We have to restore some sort of humanitarianism to Washington."
The primary goal of the campaign is inclusion, to bring people together, to show that we are indivisible and that there is liberty for all.
"I want everyone to be involved and heard. Republicans, Democrats, black, white, gay, straight, female, male, old, young, voters and non-voters".
Among the issues highest on Leineweber's agenda are education, better job quality, health and healthcare, as well as local issues such as clean water and the bridge tolls.
"Our youth's education is suffering, teachers are not given the resources they need to provide a good education, they spend money out of their own pockets for their classrooms, in some areas of our district we have great graduation rates, but in the more rural areas, those dip down to as low as 80%. We have to improve that, because the only way to fix today's problems, is to better educate the youth of tomorrow. Healthcare costs are out of control, we have millions of people on the verge of losing coverage, and it's time to start having serious discussions on a single payer system. As for the toll bridges, the tolls need to be renegotiated, period. In a recent article released by Riverlink, which is a very unorganized company in my opinion, over 260,000 Hoosiers are getting hit with bills for crossings - far ahead of Kentuckians, it's apparent who is paying for the bulk of this bridge and it's hitting us in our already hurting pocketbooks."
"Even six months after the 2016 general election, tensions are still high across the country, people are still very active in fighting for what is right. At some point, we have to move past that and look ahead. Now, more than ever, what we need to resist is the division in our country and hometowns. It is time to become the United States of America...again. That starts with one city, one county, and one district at a time. I am so excited for us to join together and show everyone just who the people of the ninth district are. We have so much love in our Midwestern hearts to give."
