Last updated on Monday, June 12, 2017

(FERDINAND) - A Huntingburg man was arrested after he led police in a chase from Ferdinand which ended when he crashed into construction barricades on Wernsing Road in Jasper early Thursday morning.

Police arrested 27-year-old Kyle Baumeister on a Level 6 felony charge of resisting law enforcement and misdemeanor counts of aggressive driving, criminal mischief, criminal recklessness and reckless driving.

Police say the pursuit began when a Ferdinand officer stopped a 2011 Honda Insight that Baumeister was driving after for traveling 70 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone on State Road 162 south of Holiday Lake Road.

Baumeister pulled the car into PJ's Barbecue parking lot in Ferdinand but when the officer approached the vehicle, he fled from the parking lot heading north on State Road 162. The officer followed and notified other officers for assistance.

Indiana State Police, Dubois County Sheriff's Department and Jasper Police Department responded and deployed stop sticks at the intersection of State Road 162 and 3rd Avenue. Baumeister continued north on State Road 162, allegedly reaching speeds of more than 100 mph, and ran the vehicle through the stop sticks. He continued into Jasper driving on the rims of the front tires.

According to police, he traveled through several Jasper streets disregarding traffic signals and stop signs attempting to evade police turning on Clay Street. Baumeister finally stopped after colliding with the construction barricades for the bridge work being done on Wernsing Road.

Baumeister was arrested and taken to Memorial Hospital and where police determined he had a blood alcohol content of 0.107 percent.

After medical cleared at the hospital he was taken to the Dubois County Security Center.
