(INDIANAPOLIS) - A female inmate was found unresponsive at the Marion County Jail and was declared deceased a short time later.

The sheriff's office says 35-year-old Miranda Peoples was found inside her cell around 8:51 p.m. and was declared deceased at 9:30 p.m.

She'd been held at the jail since June 17 on charges of possession of a narcotic, possession of cocaine and possession of a syringe.

According to the sheriff's office, Peoples' death is an apparent suicide and no foul play is suspected.

The case is being investigated by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the Marion County Sheriff's Office, the Marion County Coroner's Office and the Marion County Forensic Services Agency.
