Youth Injured In Hiking Incident

(CLOVERDALE) - Indiana Conservation Officers responded to a call about an injured juvenile hiker who fell from the trail and broke his left arm.

At 2 p.m. this afternoon a 17-year-old hiker lost his footing while hiking an area away from the marked hiking trail in Lieber State Recreation Area and fell approximately 20 feet onto the shoreline at the Cataract Falls.

The victim was retrieved with a boat maneuvered downstream from a flooded roadway before being transported by ambulance to a hospital.

Indiana Conservation Officers are currently investigating the incident, but no foul play is suspected at this time. All hikers are cautioned to obey property signs and trail markers when utilizing hiking trails on state property.

Owen County Sheriff's Department, Owen County Ambulance Service, and Owen County Water Rescue assisted at the scene.
