Toddler Recovering From Severe Burns After Walking Barefoot At Greenwood Splash Pad

Last updated on Thursday, May 18, 2017

(GREENWOOD) - A 1-year-old is recovering from severe burns after walking barefoot at a Greenwood splash pad.

FOX59 News reports that it happened Monday afternoon when the child was at the splash pad with his family. A friend says the boy walked out from his mother with no shoes on.

"And he just kept screaming and screaming and screaming. She put his shoes back on his feet to let him go play in the water then noticed that his feet were turning pink," family friend Kristen told FOX59.

The parents took the child to the doctor, where they learned the boy had suffered second degree burns on his feet.

Kristen contacted the Greenwood Parks and Recreation Department right after the incident.

"We're still taking measures and we're still looking into it on the right course of action to take," director Rob Taggart told FOX59.

In four years, the parks and recreation director says he's never had a complaint like this but warns parents to be cautious saying plastics, asphalt, concrete heat up and for parents to take proper precautions.
