Indiana Conservation Officers Investigating Water-Related Emergency In LaGrange County

Last updated on Monday, May 15, 2017

(MONGO) - Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a water-related emergency that occurred in LaGrange County.

On Friday, at approximately 4:15 p.m., 26-year-old Sasha Berry of Auburn was kayaking with a group of people on the Pigeon River approximately 3/4 of a mile West of County Road 1200 East.

Witnesses say they saw Berry's kayak strike a log and then the group became separated. Because of the strong current, they were unable to return to Berry to assist her.

The group waited at the next bridge downstream and Berry never arrived.

They dialed 911 and Indiana Conservation Officers arrived at the scene. Angola Fire Department was summoned to bring an airboat for assistance.

The airboat was launched and Berry was discovered standing in waist deep water next to her kayak.

Berry was transported to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana where she was treated and released for hypothermia.
