Last updated on Thursday, May 25, 2017

(EVANSVILLE) - The Evansville Regional Airport is planning a nearly $12.4 million redesign of its airport terminal which will include a single security line, an updated food service area and more amenities for families and children.

The Evansville Courier and Press (http://bit.ly/2qPmuZi ) reports that the first phase of construction is scheduled to begin this summer and is expected to take a year to complete.

The upgrades will also include airport administrative offices, a boardroom, outdoor canopies covering the road in front of the terminal, and a children's play area with family restrooms and a nursing room.

The state's Regional Cities program has contributed $5 million to the project. The airport is funding the remainder of the cost.

The airport has had nearly 70,000 passengers board planes so far this year.
