(INDIANAPOLIS) - In partnership with Piazza Produce, the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) announced Technology Academy at Pettit Park has been named the 2016-2017 Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program School of the Year.

Technology Academy at Pettit Park is an elementary school within the Kokomo School Corporation.

"Positive student learning starts with providing students access to healthy and nutritious meals and snacks," said Dr. Jennifer McCormick, Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction. "I am encouraged by schools all across our state who ensure students eat well during the school day, and I especially want to recognize Pettit Park for their efforts in going above and beyond with nutrition."

In its second year, the Indiana Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program School of the Year Award provides formal recognition to schools who provide outstanding service to students. The goal of the program is to improve students' overall diet while creating healthier eating habits that impact their present and future wellbeing.

As the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program School of the Year, Technology Academy at Pettit Park will receive a banner and a framed certificate from IDOE showing formal recognition of their achievement, along with a $250 award, presented by Piazza Produce.
