Body Of Young Man Pulled From Fall Creek In Pendleton

Last updated on Wednesday, May 10, 2017

(PENDLETON) - The body of a young man was found late Tuesday in Fall Creek in Pendleton in Madison County.

A friend of the victim contacted authorities shortly before 11 p.m. indicating that someone was in the water, according to investigators. When authorities arrived they found the body of a young man believed to be in his early 20s in Fall Creek. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The call came in right around 10:55 p.m. and it was just shortly after 1 a.m. when they located the individual in the water," said Todd Harmeson with Madison County EMA.

The victim had been with a group of people prior to the incident, according to police. Investigators say it is unknown what circumstances are involved, including whether alcohol may have played a factor.

Authorities from both Madison and Hamilton counties worked together during the search effort. At one point, there were four boats looking for the man.

"It was a great collaborative effort between agencies from across borders of Madison County and Hamilton County," Harmeson said. "We had flooding last week, Fall Creek is moving quite rapidly still. It's below flood stage, but certainly individuals get into flooded waters and the current very likely could have had an impact in this incident."

Investigators haven't yet released the man's name.
