Better Business Bureau Warns Businesses Not To Fall For Police Phone Scam

Last updated on Wednesday, May 10, 2017

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Better Business Bureau is warning businesses of a new scam making the rounds in Indiana.

Someone claiming to be a police officer will call a business office asking to speak to a manager or company director by name.

They will then ask questions about anti-social behavior in the area lately.

The BBB says that's just a tactic meant to gain the victim's trust.

The scammer will then ask the victim to make a small donation to a local police community publication, just like they supposedly made in the past.

Ten minutes later, another scammer will contact the victim and ask for a donation, once again.

Kris Hicks of CPR Call Block says Indiana businesses need to be very wary of donation requests.
