Arts Commission Workshop To Aid Communities With Creative Placemaking Initiatives

Last updated on Wednesday, May 10, 2017

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana Arts Commission announced there are a few registration slots still available for a June workshop on creative placemaking.

In June the IAC will host "From the Ground Up," a day and a half-long workshop introducing creative placemaking as a viable strategy for small and / or primarily rural communities and neighborhoods.

"The registration response has been great, and an indication that civic leaders recognize the arts can help reshape and revitalize communities of all sizes," said IAC Artist and Community Services Manager Anna Tragesser.

Communities that are embarking on a new placemaking initiative may find the workshop especially helpful. Sessions will focus on getting the community on board, setting goals and measuring outcomes, and managing a long-term initiative.

The June 8 and 9, 2017 workshop will open with a reception at The Tube Factory featuring special guest Michael Orlove with the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). Orlove is director of Artist Communities and Presenting & Multidisciplinary Works for the NEA. Prior to joining the NEA, Orlove was director of the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs.

The workshop will include sessions led by artists, and creative placemaking professionals from across Indiana.
