State Poet Laureate And Indiana Humanities Feature Hoosier Poets During Poetry Month

Last updated on Thursday, April 27, 2017

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana State Poet Laureate Shari Wagner teamed with Indiana Humanities to feature the work of Hoosier poets to celebrate April as National Poetry Month.

The project began in 2010 with the Indiana Poet Laureate responsible for selecting poems and, beginning in 2016, writing a prompt inspired by each work of poetry selected.

"Each year the Indiana Poet Laureate has teamed up with Indiana Humanities to feature poems from 30 Indiana poets who live throughout the state," said Indiana Poet Laureate Shari Wagner. "This is our way of celebrating National Poetry Month."

All of the poems collected since 2010, including a new poem for each day in April 2017, can be accessed at the Indiana Humanities' poetry archive.

In honor the this year's Quantum Leap - IN Humanities' focus on bringing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and the Humanities - the poem featured each Monday in April had a STEM-related theme.

"I think the archive of poetry features for National Poetry Monday is a wonderful poetry resource - especially for Indiana teachers and librarians," Wagner said.
