Rep. Chris May Raises Awareness For Organ Donation

Last updated on Wednesday, April 19, 2017

(STATEHOUSE) - State Rep. Chris May (R-Bedford) recognized Donate Life Indiana and the Indiana Donor Network at the Statehouse Tuesday for their work in helping save countless lives.

April is designated as National Donate Life Month, which is a national initiative that encourages Americans to register as organ, eye and tissue donors. May continues to advocate for organ, eye, and tissue donation, having done so as a Lawrence County commissioner last year.

"Every year, thousands of Americans are given a second chance at life because of organ donations, and I encourage those who have not already, to register as an organ donor," May said. "Donate Life Indiana and the Indiana Donor Network continue to share the importance of registering as an organ donor and I thank them for all their hard work across our state."

According to Donate Life America, 118,000 people are currently waiting on lifesaving organ transplants and every 10 minutes one more person is added to the national transplant waiting list. The lack of organ donations in the U.S. contributes to 8,000 deaths every year and the donation of an average American's organs can result in up to eight lives being saved.
