(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03) announced that his office will accept artwork entries for the 2017 Congressional Art Competition.

"The Congressional Art Competition is a great opportunity for high school students to showcase their work to the hundreds of thousands of people who visit the U.S. Capitol building each year," said Banks. "I can't wait to see the entries from talented students in northeast Indiana."

The deadline for submission is 5 p.m. on April 28, 2017. Contestants must ensure that their submissions arrive at Congressman Banks' Fort Wayne office at 1300 S. Harrison St. Room 3105 prior to the deadline. Congressman Banks' office will hold a showcase to exhibit the submissions during the first week of May. Local high schools throughout Indiana's Third Congressional District have been notified about contest rules and submission guidelines. Rules and the student entry form can also be found at .

Background: Each spring, the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives sponsor a nation-wide high school art competition. Congressman Banks invites all high school students in the Third District to submit artwork. Last year, the Third District submitted more than 40 works. The winning artist will receive a round trip flight to Washington, D.C. to see his or her artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol, where it will remain on display for one year.
