Traffic Stop Yields 70 Pounds Of Marijuana

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A traffic stop Tuesday afternoon by an Indiana State Trooper resulted in the arrest of a North Carolina man and the confiscation of 70 pounds of suspected marijuana.

At approximately 2 p.m., Indiana State Police Drug Enforcement Section Criminal Interdiction Trooper Adam Buchta was patrolling I-70 eastbound at the Marion/ Hancock County line. Trooper Buchta conducted a traffic stop on a pickup truck after he observed the driver, later identified as 36-year-old Timothy Patrick Houghton, of Raleigh, NC, comment a traffic violation.

While speaking with Houghton, Trooper Buchta detected indicators that criminal activity was afoot and developed information that lead to the discovery of 70 pounds of suspected marijuana inside a tool box in the rear of the pickup truck.

The suspected marijuana was individually wrapped in 2 pound packages.

Houghton was transported to the Marion County Arrestee Processing Center and incarcerated on felony charges of dealing marijuana over 10 pounds and possession of marijuana.
