(WARRICK CO.) - Sunday night at approximately 10 p.m., Trooper Josh Greer stopped the driver of a 1999 Toyota Avalon on State Road 62 near Stevenson Station Road for having the registration plate improperly displayed.

The driver was identified as 42-year-old Chasity Shelton of Mt. Vernon. The front seat passenger was identified as 53-year-old Robert Earl Payton of Rockport.

Police determined Shelton was driving with a suspended driver's license suspended and Payton was wanted out of Spencer County for manufacturing meth.

Warrick County Sheriff's Deputy Derek Miller and his K-9, Fado, arrived to assist Trooper Greer. While walking around the vehicle the K-9 alerted to the presence of narcotics. A further search of the vehicle was conducted and officers found several plastic baggies containing approximately 44 grams of crystal meth, a small amount of marijuana, two digital scales and drug paraphernalia.

Shelton and Payton were arrested on felony charges of dealing meth, possession of meth and misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Both were taken to the Warrick County Jail.

Payton was also arrested on the Spencer County warrant and Shelton on a charge of driving while her driver's license was suspended.

A female correctional officer searched Shelton at the Warrick County Jail and found a small amount of marijuana inside her underwear.

Both are currently being held on bond in the Warrick County Jail.
