(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly Monday voted for Seema Verma of Indiana to be the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Donnelly introduced Verma at her confirmation hearing in the Senate Finance Committee.
Donnelly said, "I was proud to work with Seema Verma and then-Governor Pence to establish HIP 2.0, which is an example of what is possible when we work together. HIP 2.0 has provided health care to more than 200,000 Hoosiers and played a critical role in combating the opioid abuse and heroin use epidemics. The current Republican repeal and replace bill would undercut that progress.
"As I have shared with Ms. Verma, I am deeply concerned about the future of health care in our country, particularly with a current proposal in the House of Representatives that would, among other things, put at risk HIP 2.0 and the health coverage of thousands of Hoosiers.
"It is my hope that Ms. Verma, a Hoosier, will instead pursue a thoughtful, pragmatic, and bipartisan path to protecting Medicare and Medicaid and expand access to quality health care."
