(MUNCIE) - School board members in an Indiana community say they’re deeply troubled by a series of anonymous letters that started arriving after a superintendent was hired in 2015.
Muncie school board members said the latest was three pages of a novel that began, "I'm a sociopath."
Robert "Andy" Warrner said he plans to offer a reward for information about the identity of the sender. He said the writer is a "coward" who is "trying to terrorize" the school board.
"When we get these kinds of things, it's scary," board member Bev Kelley said at a meeting Tuesday night. "When I got this letter I felt somebody was stalking me, and that's scary."
The Star Press said the letters started arriving after Steve Baule was hired as superintendent. One asked for an apology and said he was a "bad hire."
Warrner said his out-of-state son is afraid to let his grandchildren visit Muncie.
The school district is facing pay cuts, more layoffs and school closings due to declining enrollment, The Star Press reported.
"Surely there are decent people in this town who are sick and tired of these other people who are trying to bully us, whose crime it is that we tried to stand up and do what we thought was right for the schools and the city," Warrner, a retired teacher, said.
