(INDIANAPOLIS) - The American Red Cross has selected WGU Indiana Chancellor Dr. Allison Barber to serve as the new Indiana state volunteer leader. Dr. Barber is a longtime volunteer for the American Red Cross, and will work alongside Regional CEO Chad Priest to engage in strategic efforts and help in the recruitment of volunteers.

"I am elated to have Dr. Allison Barber join the Red Cross team as our state volunteer leader," said Chad Priest, Regional CEO for the American Red Cross. "She brings with her a wealth of experience from the government, business, and nonprofit sectors and a significant history with the Red Cross movement. Dr. Barber will be an invaluable asset for our mission in Indiana."

Dr. Barber will assist the Indiana region of the American Red Cross in making connections with people throughout the state and building the volunteer base to deliver the Red Cross mission.

"Having volunteered with the American Red Cross since such a young age, I recognize just how broad an impact the organization has had in Indiana and across this country," said Dr. Barber. "The Red Cross provides a necessary outlet for philanthropy and service in our community and I'm proud to lead other Hoosiers in giving back."

Dr. Barber started volunteering for the American Red Cross at the age of sixteen and spent six years working in biomedical services at the national office of the Red Cross in Washington D.C. She continues her work with the organization both personally and professionally. In 2015, WGU Indiana signed a partnership with the American Red Cross, offering special benefits to Red Cross employees and volunteers. These students receive a five percent tuition discount for up to four terms and are eligible to apply for the WGU Healthcare Partners Fund Scholarship valued at up to $2,500. All WGU degree programs are eligible for Red Cross partnership tuition benefits.
