(UNDATED) - The Department of Natural Resources is looking for volunteers for two big events happening on June 10-11.

These events draw in hundreds of people and encourages them to get outdoors. Both would be great experiences.

2017 Ford Hoosier Outdoor Experience Fort Harrison State Park June 10-11

The Ford Hoosier Outdoor Experience - offered by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and associated partners - is the largest, hands-on outdoor recreation event of the year. Get outside for a weekend of fun. Your volunteer hours will be used in areas like: off-road Jeep rides, disc golf, paddling, fishing, tiny tots motorcycle rides and more.

With more than 50 different activities on-site, this free event attracts approx. 20,000 attendees. And we wouldn't be able to pull it off without volunteers like you.

2017 Outdoor Explore! Tippecanoe County Parks June 10-11

Outdoor Explore! - A Beyond Your Backyard Sampler" is a free community all-ages event, in its third year, held in Tippecanoe County on the second Saturday of June each year (this year it is on June 10). The idea is to expose folks to a wide range of outdoor pursuits by allowing them to meet experts in those activities who allow them to try these activities at their booths (this, of course, has similarities to the Hoosier Outdoor Experience.) There are close to two dozen activities to try and also a "Park Row" which then connects folks to the local park venues and agencies that can provide the places to engage in these new outdoor hobbies. Last year more than 500 people attend; this year a second venue is being added which allows "on the water" activities and we expect our attendance to grow.

Regarding volunteer needs, the addition of new booths, venues and activities means that volunteer needs have greatly increased. The event runs from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and officials need of dozens of volunteers to fill a variety of roles: serving as event greeters, traffic control, working concession stands, selling water bottles and climbing tower tickets, climbing tower harness helpers, hospitality runners to provide snacks and water to booths, working at the IMN booth, and serving as extra hands at a variety of the booths - from fishing to nature painting to tree I.D. and invasive species removal, and so many more. If enough volunteers are recruited the idea is that folks could work part of the day and enjoy the activities themselves the rest of the day: a win-win situation. Officials would like to start developing a list of helpers now, so interested folks should contact (765) 567-2993 or
