(INDIANAPOLIS) - Volunteers from Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) will gather at the Indiana State House on March 20 to show support for the program and to interact with legislators about important issues facing children.

CASA volunteers advocate on behalf of abused and neglected children whose families are involved with the child welfare system.

The event will be held Monday, March 20th at the Indiana State House in the North Atrium on the second floor from Noon till 1 p.m.

Indiana Supreme Court Justice Steven David will be in attendance to thank volunteers for their service. The program will also include remarks from a former foster youth from Lake County. The gathering is expected to include approximately 400 CASA volunteers from across the state.

There are more than 4,000 CASA volunteers in 79 Indiana counties who helped advocate on behalf of the nearly 27,000 children served in 2016. However, there are still over 6,000 children who are waiting for a CASA. The goal of the gathering is to draw attention to the need for more volunteers.
