Bill Banning Two Dangerous Drugs On Its Way To Governor

Last updated on Friday, March 24, 2017

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A bill is on its way to the governor’s desk that would add two drugs to Indiana’s controlled substance list.

The bill's sponsor, State Representative Jeff Ellington of Bloomington, says U-47-700 and Etizolam are extremely dangerous substances that need to be added to the list, making it illegal to purchase or distribute.

Ellington said there have been more than 50 deaths nationwide and two in Bloomington linked to U-47-700 use.

U-47-700 does not have a legitimate medical purpose.

Etizolam is currently a prescription sedative in Japan, India and Italy but has recently emerged on the illicit drug market in Europe and the United States.
