Police Looking For Truck After Jasper Man Injured From Flying Debris

Last updated on Friday, February 3, 2017

(HUNTINGBURG) - A Jasper man is in the hospital for injuries he received after an object flew from a truck in front of his vehicle and crashed through his windshield Wednesday morning.

According to police, 60-year-old Charles Nunn was southbound in a 2008 Ford Focus on U.S. 231 about a quarter mile south of WITZ Road at about 9:53 a.m. A witness told police that a white box truck or tractor trailer was northbound when an object, later identified as a large piece of metal, came off the truck and struck Nunn's car.

The Dubois County Free Press reports the metal piece thought to be part of the truck's wheel crashed through Nunn's vehicle's windshield striking him. His vehicle then ran off the west side of the road and struck an advertising billboard support beam before stopping.

The truck continued northbound.

Police speculate the driver likely didn't realize the incident had occurred.

Nunn was taken to Memorial Hospital by ambulance and was later transferred to St. Mary's Medical Center.

The Dubois County Sheriff's Department is requesting that anyone with information about the incident contact Deputy Wade Pierce at the sheriff's department at (812) 482-3522 ext. 2.

Huntingburg Police Department, Huntingburg Volunteer Firefighters and First Responders, Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services and a KARS wrecker assisted at the scene.
