Last updated on Monday, February 27, 2017

(LaGRANGE) - Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a Boating Incident that occurred at approximately 7 p.m. Sunday.

According to police, 23-year-old Brandon J. Heidorn and 22-year-old Jessica R. Searls, both of LaGrange, were in a canoe together at Fish Lake, when for an unknown reason their canoe overturned placing them in the frigid water.

A Good Samaritan on shore heard their cries for help. He was able to rescue the two victims by paddling out to them with a kayak and assisting them safely to shore.

Both victims were flown by the Samaritan Helicopter to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, due to their hypothermic conditions.

Indiana Conservation Officers were also assisted by the LaGrange County Sheriff's Department, LaGrange Police Department, LaGrange Fire Department, and Parkview EMS.
