Last updated on Wednesday, February 1, 2017

(WASHINGTON) - This week, U.S. Representative André Carson (D-IN) was selected as the Ranking Member on the Emerging Threats Subcommittee on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence for the 115th Congress. He is now the top Ranking Democrat on the Subcommittee.

The Emerging Threats Subcommittee plays a vital role in ensuring the United States has the tools and resources needed to identify, track and defeat dangerous threats.

"We live in a world where the number and type of threats facing our country is rapidly increasing - from Russian and Chinese aggressors to domestic and international terrorists," said Congressman Carson. "As the Ranking Member of the Emerging Threats Subcommittee, I intend to work with Members of both parties to improve coordination and effectiveness across our Intelligence Community to ensure that decision makers are receiving the best possible information about our adversaries. I will also closely monitor the incoming Administration to ensure its policies respect our constitutionally protected civil rights, religious rights, and privacy."

The Emerging Threats Subcommittee is responsible for overseeing the policies, activities and budgets of: the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, including the National Counterterrorism Center, the National Counter Proliferation Center and the National Counterintelligence and Security Center; the national security components of the Federal Bureau of Investigation; Intelligence Community-wide integration and information sharing programs; and the intelligence elements of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Departments of State (DOS), Homeland Security (DHS), Energy (DOE), and Treasury (DOT).

In addition to serving as the Ranking Member on the Emerging Threats Subcommittee, Congressman Carson will sit on the Department of Defense Intelligence and Overhead Architecture Subcommittee on the House Intelligence Committee. He will also continue to serve on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, sitting on the Aviation and the Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials Subcommittees.
